Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this knowledge-based CPE activity, pharmacy technicians should be able to:

  1. Describe the differences between each drug enforcement agency drug schedule and why each drug fits into their respective categories. 
  2. List examples of medications in each controlled drug schedule.
  3. Identify relevant federal laws surrounding the use, storage, and dispensing of controlled substances.
  4. Identify common over-the-counter medications. 
  5. Describe the use of certain over-the-counter medications. 
  6. Examine the problematic over-the-counter medication names and how to evaluate possible solutions with a pharmacist.   
  7. Recall the role of antibiotics in the treatment of infections including pneumonia. 
  8. Describe the differences in bacterial coverage between antibiotics to ensure they are used appropriately and safely. 
  9. Discuss common types of pneumonia including the corresponding antibiotic therapies for each type.
