This topic examines pharmacy technician role expansion from the perspective of the pharmacist’s comfort level and how motivation affects the likelihood of successful pharmacy technician role expansion. To start the talk, the presenter examines what factors may influence pharmacist comfort levels with pharmacy technicians taking on additional, advanced roles within the pharmacy. Building on these factors, the second part of the talk examines how motivators influence the likelihood of successful role expansion for pharmacy technicians. In particular, this presentation examines what occupational values motivate pharmacy technicians, what pharmacists believe motivates pharmacy technicians and how those two come together in how pharmacists craft messaging for pharmacy technicians to take on additional roles and the likelihood of pharmacy technicians taking on those roles.
