Topic 2 is Health & Human Trafficking: The Role of the Pharmacy Technician
Presented by Laura Lederer, President of Global Centurion | Virginia
Healthcare providers, including pharmacy technicians, are “first responders” to victims of human trafficking. New research has shown that trafficking victims have acute and chronic physical and mental health problems. Pharmacy technicians are uniquely positioned to treat the immediate needs of trafficking victims. It’s essential to be aware of the slavery-like context of trafficking in order to identify trafficking victims and to respond appropriately. This talk helps pharmacy technicians understand human trafficking, what patient encounters may look like with victims and how to respond to such.
